All Catholic schools are committed to providing a school environment that promotes and protects our children’s health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. Therefore, it is the policy of the Archdiocese of Detroit that all students in grades K-12 have opportunities, support, and encouragement to be physically active on a regular basis. Each student attends physical education class once per week. The physical education program at St. Patrick exposes students to a variety of lifelong activities. Students are taught the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle. Along with teaching game and skill concepts, students learn cooperation and sportsmanship through team building lessons. The students are also taught proper character traits that will stay with them well into adulthood.
In addition:
Parents are encouraged to provide a healthy breakfast each morning; and if packing a lunch for their children, to provide only healthy choices from each food group.
We offer a school hot lunch program that meets all USDA nutrition recommendations for school lunches, and delivers fresh, healthy foods that students enjoy.
Cafeteria workers are trained in food service handling and abide by local health code policies.
Teachers promote proper handwashing or hand sanitizing frequently throughout the day.
The school provides a safe, clean, and pleasant setting with adequate time for students to eat.
The school schedules appropriate lunch periods followed by outdoor recess whenever possible. Playgrounds are monitored by adults and checked for safety.
The school accommodates the tooth-brushing regimens of students with special oral health needs such as orthodontics or high tooth decay risks.
The school accommodates the needs of children with food allergies by providing separate dining tables that are constantly monitored for exposure to known allergens.
The school does not have offer soda or candy options.
